Every home owner with pets in the Spring Hill TN area needs to take precautions when leaving pets out to roam or tied on a leash or even locked up in a pen or fenced in area. There has been a rash of attacks by coyotes on pets in the past year and it seems that the attacks are on the rise. The latest attack was on a Yorkshire Terrier that belonged to a woman by the name of Sarah Paxson.

The attack was in the Whispering Woods subdivision located in Spring Hill TN. Our sympathy and condolence goes out to Sarah paxson. You can read more about her tragic story buy going to www.springhillinformer.com

. Here are some helpful tips if you hear coyotes or suspect that coyotes are in your area: keep all dog or cat food in the house or garage, try not to make you routine the same every time you put your pet on a leash.

Keep lids on all trash cans and don’t place trash out until the day of pick up. Try to make sure gates are shut around your property at all times. If you ever need advice feel free to call us or if you have any local wildlife news we would like to hear about it.

Sara Paxton said that only a few days passed before Clay Oren had caught a coyote on her property.

When Clay Oren heard about coyotes that had recently attacked and killed Sara Paxton’s beloved Yorkshire terrier here in Spring Hill, he felt that he had to help. Oren is the owner of Fur-N-Feathers Wildlife Management, a privately owned business that specializes in wildlife control. While his business is not a non-profit one, he decided to make an exception for this case. He was so touched that he is providing free treatment to Paxton for thirty days to keep the coyotes away.

Oren has worked in the business of wildlife control since 2001. His experience allowed him to become the owner of his own business in October 2009. There are many reasons a home or business owner might call Fur-N-Feathers Wildlife Management. A scurrying or scratching in the attic or walls, a skunk spraying in a crawl space or under a porch, or damage from animals such as a squirrel chewing a hole in a roof or a side vent could all be such reasons. It doesn’t stop there. Oren has removed many dead animals in addition to possibly harmful droppings that wildlife can leave behind.

Oren stresses that he cares about wildlife, even the ones that are causing problems to a home or business owner. His technique includes relocating the animal to a suitable environment. Oren has several “safe places,” which he will not disclose for fear of hunters targeting the animals. “I love saving animals. I love what I do.” says Oren. He knows he is helping pets as well as the animals that may cause them harm. Fur-N-Feathers Wildlife Management provides not only the humane removal of animals that are causing problems, but will provide solutions to prevent future problems. Oren’s is one of the few companies that offers barrier control. They have proven to effectively keep animals out of areas such as under decks and porches. Depending on the type of damage, the company also offers repair service as well.

Unfortunately, coyote attacks on pets in the area have been on the rise. Paxton said that only a few days passed before Oren had caught a coyote on her property. His consideration for others and his dedication to his work made a great impression on Paxton. “This guy just came up and said, ‘I want to help you,” she said.

While Oren doesn’t generally give free services to clients, he believes his rates are competitive. For a licensed and certified wildlife specialist, call (615) 491-6859. The website address is fur-n-featherswildlifemanagement.com.

Servicing the surrounding areas including Williamson, Maury, Robertson, Davidson, Wilson, Cheatham, Dickson, Rutherford, Bedford counties and more, Oren is confident he can give you peace of mind concerning your home, business, or property.

Squirrel Trapping and Control

Squirrels are small, destructive furry rodents who become a nuisance when they enter attics, soffits, and other areas of buildings. Squirrels are capable of causing damage through their gnawing activities, including creating a fire risk when they gnaw through the insulation on wires. Squirrels also contaminate buildings with the shed hairs, urine, and droppings, and the parasites they carry can transmit many serious arboviral diseases.

Raccoon Trapping and Control

Raccoons are intelligent, medium-sized destructive mammals who frequently take up residence in attics, chimneys, sheds,
barns, and other homes and buildings. Raccoons are stocky, powerful animals who can become aggressive and cause serious injury if approached.
Raccoons also have a high incidence of rabies, and their parasites can vector many serious diseases. Raccoon control usually is accomplished by trapping and then having a professional identify areas needed for animal damage repair and prevention. Raccoons will use separate areas in a attic as toilets and the fecal and urine matter can cause the spread of dangerous diseases such as raccoon roundworm and other diseases

Bat Control and Removal

Bats are beneficial mammals because they consume about 1000 insects an hour each during their nightly flights and up to
6000-8000 insects in one evening and basically eat their weight in insects with each nights flights. Bats become a nuisance when they nest in attics, barns, bell towers, soffits, and other parts of buildings. Their guano (droppings) contain disease-causing organisms, their parasites can transmit serious diseases, and the bats themselves have a high incidence of rabies. Bat control is accomplished primarily by exclusion or the use of one way exit doors.

The use of glueboards, mothballs are in many parts of the country illegal since many bats species are endangered and protected by the federal government and many local and state agencies. The trapping and use of nets with bats is illegal in some parts of the country because many get injured and can no longer fly. Skunk Control

Skunks (polecats) are medium-sized, primarily nocturnal animals whose diet consists mainly of insects and small rodents. as well as
grasses, berries, and other plant products. They also are one of the few animals who eat honeybees. Although passive by nature, skunks will defend themselves with a foul-smelling spray that they can discharge with pinpoint if they feel threatened. This ability is the main reason why skunks are disliked. Groundhog” title=”Groundhog” rel=”wikipedia”>Groundhog (Woodchuck) Control

Groundhogs (also called “woodchucks”) are large, burrowing rodents who primarily eat grasses, berries, and other plant products, although they will also eat grasshoppers and other insects on occasion. They are disliked mainly because of the burrows they dig, which can range to 50 feet in length and usually have several openings. These burrows damage golf courses and lawns, and create an injury hazard because they are large enough for a person to step in or trip over.
